Hey my GT lovers, do we not all love movies with GT in them? Well what if I told you there was a 1996 version of Gulliver’s Travels that was super perfect?
Hallmark’s 1996 tv miniseries adaptation!
You might already be aware of it, but you might not! If you didn’t know of it, you at least are aware of the really shitty adaptations of this classic novel! This one isn’t shitty
the whole story is told
I don’t know how many of you have read the book, but if you have, then you know most Gulliver’s Travels movies are pretty much the opposite of the books. They are children’s stories somehow derived from a book that was a satire that targeted every aspect of life in Britain by having Lamuel Gulliver travel to many fantasy lands that represented each part of society and life.
but I digress. this movie is amazing. It gets everything right, and the special effects are great!
(damn that looks painful)
(They even do this scene which is showing how government positions are given to those who can jump over a fuckin stick. Representing how people obtain positions in the british government)
more cute scenes! (i should mention that Gulliver is having vivid flashbacks so sometimes his reality and hallucinations merge)
On to Brobdingnag!
(UGH THE QUEEN IS SO BEAUTIFUL!)
(fave scene tbh, science it happening XD. don’t worry he’s not harmed)
(the Wasp scene and the Gun Powder Demonstration, both scenes that, if a movie even makes it to Brobdingnag, are not done for some reason??)
Obviously, if you watch the movie you should watch all 3 hours of it, though voyages 1 and 2 (Lilliput and Brobdingnag) are in the first 1.5 hours. The other voyages are equally as exciting and well done!
WATCH THIS MOVIE
(actually i should host a movie night where i stream it if I can figure out how! then we can all watch together!)
oh my god they do the second half of the book too???
I mean, fuck, I love me some G/t, but the entirety of Gulliver’s Travels is brilliant satire and the Laputians and the Houyhnhnms don’t get as much love as they deserve.
