Wawa, got tagged by @vorelated~
Rules: Pick 15 songs people should listen to if they want to get to know
you better. Think of it as a soundtrack to your life. Then, tag someone
else to do the same.
Oh no this is going to be hard. Especially now that I troll Bandcamp and have probably spent $150 on music in the last 6 months alone. It’ll be for great justice, tho, so I’ll try. u_u
Blackwater Park – Opeth: Arguably among the best metal songs ever:
In 2012, Loudwire listed “Blackwater Park” as number two on their list of the Top 50 Metal Songs of the 21st Century. In June 2015, Rolling Stone ranked “Blackwater Park” at 28th place for their list Greatest Prog Rock Albums of all time.
Foreplay/Long Time – Boston: Loved this song so hard that I learned to do the hard drums and vocals for it at the same time back when all my friends had Rock Band.
Hotel California – The Eagles: This list wouldn’t be complete without The Eagles, and so why not put one of their best damn songs on here? (RIP Glenn Frey. You are already sorely missed.)
No Quarter – Tool: Cheating a little, here. Tool was my very first favorite band but I don’t really listen to them anymore. But I will forever love Zepplin, too, so, killing two birds with one stone. It’s a REALLY good cover, at any rate.
Mind Drive – Yes: Yes is one of my favorite bands of all time so this was a hard choice. It was either this or Starship Trooper: Life Seeker/Disillusion/Wurm.(RIP Chris Squire.) 18+ mins.
Octivarium – Dream Theater: If you’re not familiar with DT, they’re p much the world’s foremost prog rock/metal tour de force. They’re so intense that I can’t even really listen to them for enjoyment’s sake. (I mean that in the best possible way.) 24 mins.
Russia on Ice – Porcupine Tree: Steven Wilson is one of the greats in contemporary prog rock, and this is one of my favorites that he’s done. (There’s a lot of Floyd in this track too.) 10 mins.
New Stone – Parasol Caravan: An Austrian heavy rock group that I’m obsessed with rn. This album has sci-fi themes which sound amazing with the lead’s powerful voice and the grungy, fuzzy guitars. 8 mins.
Puzzle – Solar Fields remix: Solar Fields, one of my favorite electronic ambient artists, doing a remix for a song from one of my favorite video games? Relaxing, moody, introspective. Somehow more than the sum of it’s world-class parts. 9 mins.
Favela – Palm Desert: Really great song by a great stoner/desert rock band from Poland. For some reason it just reminds me of what it’s like to drive around LA in the summer with the AC broken.
Seek & Destroy – Bassnectar: A glitchy/dubstep remix of the Metallica song. Great for punching kaiju and canceling apocalypses!
197 – Major Parkinson: Like the prog metal ravings of a very talented madman?
Shine On You Crazy Diamond – Pink Floyd: Because every rock fan worth their salt has a favorite Floyd song, rite? 25+ mins.
Rhapsody In Blue – Gershwin: Second favorite classical piece. 18 mins.
Jupiter – Holst: First favorite classical piece ever. Actually, the entire Planets suite is beautiful and tremendous (and the Mars theme influenced a lot of film composers; even Williams’ work on Star Wars!) Isao Tomita did a synth version of the entire suite in the mid-70′s that’s mind-blowing, too.
